Daily Count
Every day in school, we have a short sharp maths session to practice different number skills every day. This session is only a few minutes long (5-10 mins max) and is as fun as possible! Below is our timetable along with some suggested activities that you could do at home. Remember you can email me with any questions or to let me know how it is going.
Monday - Reciting numbers |

Count forwards as high as you can
Count backwards from 20 Count up to 100 in tens Count up to 10/20 in twos |

Make up some different number stories to solve using Numicon shapes, drawing pictures, a numberline, counting in your head etc. - you could make up some number stories to solve whilst having breakfast, on a walk, at the beach etc.

Missing number/ guess the number games - use your number skills to guess the numbers. (follow the link opposite to see game instructions )
Estimation - have a group of objects (toys/ pasta shapes/ shells etc) hidden under a cloth/ in a box - take a very quick look - make a clever guess at the total number then count to see who was the closest. |
Friday - TopicOn a Friday we go over whatever topic work we have been looking at that week. Choose one of the topics to look at each week.
Width/Length/ Height - compare objects - carrots/ flowers/ shells/ people/ toys - put them in height/ length order. Which is the tallest/ shortest/ longest/widest/ thinnest? Are any the same size? Can you find something the same length etc as the carrot? Shape - go on a shape hunt inside/ outside - can you find something the same shape as...? Can you make a shape picyre? Can you find any 3D shapes? Cube/ Cuboid/ Sphere/ Cylinder/ Cone? Time - Look at the clock - point out every time it show an o'clock time. Use the clocks you made to match the time. Play 'What's the Time Mr Wolf?' Money - Use real money to pretend to buy things in the house - toys/ snacks etc. Can you use different coins to make the same amount? Match coins to pennies. |
